I can't think of something that contains sufficient gravitas....

So howabout a distillery? Making various forms of whisky, whiskey and other spirits?

I recall that the fine folks at Grover's Corners have some golf carts to make travel inside the town easier.

Are any of them like this one?

As the closest Fenspace has to a deputy Mod (and I'm not that close), I'd prefer this Rock go to somebody or some group who will treat it with respect ... if it goes to anyone at all. Let's not make it just another random settlement.
Lets make it into a place of sharing and learning. Where all kind of people and factions can come to to teach others new things and how to apply them. To make sure that the knowledge (and its application) gets spread wider in Fenspace so it can not go lost again.

A NERV Foundation research team found in the WFC and IBC 2 played:

It led to many a B.5er wearing a t-shirt bearing a SD-Stig punching out a SD-Clark.
Just saying. ^_^

We do know from Disturbing Implications of Land Rising Into the Sky that at least one floats like a landspeeder.  Each one came out slightly different from the others after waving, but I would be surprised if only one floated.  And what the hell, why not a genuine hovercraft among the bunch?

Phosphorescent ("storing up" light to softly glow even in total darkness) or chemoluminescent (glowing without input, which has the drawback of eventually running down) silk, instead of mere fluorescence (which requires constant exposure to UV to glow)?

A SETI astronomer found a new Neptunian moon, which is 12 miles in diameter. My first thought was, "isn't that kind of puny?" Thinking of Pluto, I followed with "do we have dwarf moons?"

Lo and behold, a quick Google shows that our solar system has lots of "dwarf moons".

Well, two of the five engines... although the serial number on one of the pieces backs them up.

that one defining tune

It's possibly been brought up before.
It's possibly been brought up by me, myself or I before, even, and forgotten.
But there's always been that one song going through my head whenever I considered the idea of Fenspace and all it brings with it, or even any similar work of fiction and new frontiers. It bears repeating ever so often though, so ...

So, what are your bits of auditory inspirations?

Dark Star soundtrack

Benson, Arizona (music : John Carpenter, lyrics : Bill Taylor , sung: John Yager) is a fine bit of Space-Country from a fine bit of zero-budget Sci-Fi cinema. I've, as of today, finally acquired a decent copy of the soundtrack off of iTunes that includes Benson & the music to Assault on Precinct 13. For the longest time, I've only been able to find terrible (Neil Norman, Greatest Science Fiction Hits Vol. 2) & middling (The Essential John Carpenter, City of Prague Philharmonic)  synth renditions of the main theme, but now Alan Howath has ridden to the rescue. This is not the first time he's provided a sound Carpenter soundtrack rescue : he and Larry Hopkins put together a quite good soundtrack for The Thing.
