[Story][Season 2] Interview

#3
So now, we continue

Quote:The door to the staff hangar bay opened. Lights flickered on automatically

"It's in here."

Prim's attention was focused on the output screen of the scanner held in her hands. She navigated around the tightly parked spacecraft without looking up once, following the blip on screen.

Two security staff followed, each with their own scanner.

The three of them filtered through the bay, scanning each individual vehicle in turn., narrowing down the source.

One of the security-men called out. "I got it!"

He was standing beside a red motorcycle. It was an oversized one - longer and broader than the average 2-wheeler with an upright riding position and a full seat-back. It had two full pannier bags with a small outrigger under each supporting it as it was parked. A single panel under the seat was open to allow a cable to connect with the battery pack.

Prim ran over, recalibrating her scanner on the fly. She offered it to the battery pack, making a few final adjustments.

It answered with a happy chirp

"Confirmed. The signal's coming from here."

The third guard checked his datapad, inputting the registration number. "Port Phobos Registry in the name of Shinji Ikari.. Mz-23 Judy. Megazone 23 Garland-Bahamode replica." He cringed. "I hope somebody got the Narn Bat Squad for that,"

Prim glanced at him, then back a the bike. She inspected the battery pack, making sure it wasn't rigged with any sort of alarm, or tamper protection. Satisfied it was safe, she yanked the cable free.

A single red LED on the side of the pack went dark. She checked her scanner and smiled.

"That confirms it's coming from this machine's powerpack"

"So, what's with this signal anyway?" asked the Guard.

"Classified," Prim answered, sliding the cable's plug back into its socket.

The guard nodded. "So, you want me to fetch the kid?"

Anything that caused the R'n'D chief to answer with 'classified' usually meant an immediate change in career direction for the person responsible.

"No. This has to go higher."

So, definitely an immediate career vector change if it was getting noticed by the Big Cheese.

She opened her mind to her datalink, reaching out through the interwave to pull down as much information as possible on the bike. There wasn't much. It was a prototype, built on Frigga. And aside from an argument about whether it was a heavy motorslave or a true Bahamode replica, there really wasn't much else about it. It was known for its owner.

She made her way back to the office, digging through the Stellvian archives as she walked. She pulled up classified details on Stellvian dealings with Frigga, rifling through them for any hints. It surprised her when confirmation came not from the deep secrets, but from the ordinary corporate business data.

It came from the customer records of Ultima. It was circumstantial, but the dates were close enough to the Federation's to back her hypothesis up. With a satisfied smile on her face, she opened a comm-link.

"Mr. Scott? I've found the source of the Tannhauser signal. "
