In the creator's words:-

Mission Planner is not intended to be a full replacement for the in-game Mission Architect UI. Its design is minimalistic for a reason: I wanted a small program that I could sneak into a thumb drive to use at work in order to sketch and edit missions, without having to install anything on the computer. With time, it will grow to have all the options that the Mission Architect has, with two exceptions: no costume editor, and no graphics for the maps. Other than that, a year from now, it should be able to do everything the Mission Architect can do, and some more.
