Silent Death: Stalker ground up build
Silent Death: Stalker ground up build
#1
So, having dealt with my old Stalker concept not really being that synergistic with the Hide/AS/Critical Stalker dynamic because of using DB, I rerolled a new stalker using a powerset I imagine will be slightly more effective.
Shadow, at the moment, is not very far along. Only level 4. However, I'm mostly tossing this out to see what's recommended for slotting. I've never dealt with Ninjitsu, for all that it's almost SR in a funny hat, with a few extra tricks. So do I slot primarily for defense? Try to KO them quickly and fade away to Hide for another AS?
My main goal is to subvert the "One second burst damage/fragile as hell" Stalker dynamic without resorting to Willpower. Essentially, I'm trying to build a Scrapper out of a Stalker. The budget is....not exceptionally expensive, as redside's much less viable for me to farm inf for her. Beyond that, go crazy.
The build below is what powers I see taking, but if there are suggestions for alternate power choices, go ahead and speak up on those too. I'm not picky. Big Grin

From general stalkerish playing I can tell you that a SR or Nin Stalker is fragile as hell in the low levels. Claws is nice set, but not the highest damage you
might get. If you want a scrap-alker you'll probably want Willpower or Regen. Also I think Stalker claws are getting tweaks with i13, so I might suggest
you wait to see what/if anything comes through, before going with a claws.

Stalker - Claws Ninja.... Build 1
#3
*cracks knuckles*
Stalkers.... lets get one thing straight first of all. Stalkers are NOT Scrappers!! They may at times pretend to be scrappers but they are not scrappers. They even share some of the same powers... but they are NOT scrappers.
Got that?
Stalker Primaries.
  • EM - Energy Melee aka Pink Pom-Pom of Pain. Slow recharge, but have big hitters. All single target attacks, and apart from the first few they all hurt and stun a LOT! This is the PvP set.
  • Spines - Prikley aka the other EM. Jack of all trades. Has some ranged attacks, DoT, and Toxic damage. In the right hands, this set can be an absolute monster.
  • Dark Melee - Comes with a heal and bonus semi-placate and is neigh on unkillable in PvE when pretending to be a scrapper due to the stacking of to-hit debuffs. Good for Buzzsaw builds.
  • MA - Martial Arts - also known in the community as 'lol MA'. Totally unlike the scrapper version. Faster then EM, but with less damage, and less ability to stun.
  • Ninja Blade - Katanna by another name. No range attacks, but can protect itself, and attack multiple targets if needed. Fast and accurate. Note: Pointy end goes into the target.
  • Dual Blade - Fail. Combos on a AT that is Burst Damage, and not meant to hang around? Fail. Utter Fail. If you want Dual Blades that badly go roll a Blue Side target.
  • Claws - One with the blade! Range attacks and AoE as well. Fastest set, low end cost, but with a price - that of damage.
  • Electric Melee - Don't have any experience with this set, but its appartently the PvE set. Electrical Blast on a Melee scale, drain your target's end. With a teleporting big-punch.
That's all of them...
Now onto the secondary.
Ninjitsu is a slightly weaker defense wise version of Super Reflexes... but you get a lot more bang for your buck. You don't have to take -all- the powers to get to "max possible" defense, and you get a heal tossed in as part of your set.
Having reached this point of this post go get a drink of water and congratulate yourself... go on, I'll wait...
You back yet?
... waiting...
You here?
You are? Good.
Now I wrote the above based on memory of the request. Now rather then loose all that effort and time, lets continue on...
Stalkers can be made into Scrappers... but only after a certain point. Its not what they are meant for. Stalkers are meant to be Burst Damage. For example, on Sable Kat, my Dark/Dark Stalker who as noted above has an easier time then most being a scrapper, at level 27+ her attack chain is something like: Build UP, AS, Placate, Shadow Punch, Touch of Fear, Shadow Maul, Fists of Mu, Brawl, wait for Hidden, Shadow Punch+Critical, Placate, AS....
There is a reason why Stalkers are Boss killers... and Hit-and-Run fighters. But that's a debate and discussion best left for another time.
Onto a build for Silent Death...
Let me start my remarks that while I don't have a stalker at level 50, I do have several stalkers. A MA/Regen, Spin/Regen, Dark/Dark, and more recently a Claws/SR and Kat/Nin.
I'm going to take a buzz saw to your build. Live with it.
Placate at level 49!!!
I. AM. HAVING. AN. EPISODE.
That is like have stamina at lvl 49! Sure you can survive. But you will not enjoy the ride and the others around you will think you are a fool.
Stalkers are Assassins. You live to Assassinate. You sleep to Assassinate. You eat to Assassinate. You do this from the Hidden state. Attacking a targets takes you out of the Hidden state. Placate puts you back in there. A stalker without Placate is like a Pub without no beer! A car without its wheels! Sad...
OK... calming down...
Let's try this again...
*ponders build*
No I can't do it... Sorry.
Here is my suggested build. Its going to look completely different to your build. Again, sorry, I just couldn't get your build to work.
Caltrops... Not really needed. Hide and running serve just as good a purpose.
Smoke Flash - A AoE Placate, Sign me up! Wrong. The animation is long and it will get you killed.
Slotting order, around lvl 30, and after lvl 40 slotting order is to personal taste. This is one possible suggestion. Priority should be to where it is needed at the time. I've placed the slots based on my experience.
/Nin you can slot for Def and then focus on your attacks... which is what I've done... Wire might be able to improve this to better match your request.
Quick rundown of powers:
  • Hide - You NEVER ever want this power to be turned off. It consumes no end and is most of your AoE defense. This power allows you free criticals.
  • Assassin's Claw - Slotting this power is heavily debated. Some say, 2 Acc 3 Dam 1 End, so that it never misses. Others say 3 Acc 3 Dam. Still others say 2 Acc 3 Dam 1 Rech. Personally I found 1 Acc 3 Dam 1 End 1 Rech works until you get sets.
The set combo I've suggested is about the best compromise I've found that uses a proc for the extra bit of 'spice' and isn't too difficult to get.
  • Kuji-In Rin - Think Practiced Brawler with a bit extra. just needs a bit of help to become perma.
  • Kuji-In Sha - Your heal. Others get annoyed when you kill their partners. Fancy that. With slotting you can heal half your health every 30s. Tip: Don't get hit.
  • Focus - The first of Claws big hitters. And its ranged too.
  • Eviscerate & Shockwave - These are you heavy hitters. they don't hit as hard as some other sets heavy hitters, but they chew less end and recharge faster. 6 slot these and you're good to go.
  • Kuji-In Retsu - This is your God Mode. This is your Elude. This is your 'I Win' Button. Sure when its done, you suffer an end crash, but you get warning now... so guess what? Say you pop this in an AV fight? 3 minutes of unkillable claw spinning in-your-face fury, then just before it crashes (the icon starts to blink), fire off Placate, and the AV forgets all about you. You then get the end crash but because Hide cost no end, it doesn't drop. Pop a blue or Rest and then before you know it, your are back in the other guy's face sticking your claws into places he rather they didn't go.
  • Blinding Power - Gotten more for the Purple potential then its actual usage, confuse is fun.
  • Dark Blast - Faster then Moonbeam. Just as good.
  • Soul Storm - This is a -good- power. Its just a pity we can't get the AV version that Ghost Widow herself uses.Watch them float.
  • Acrobatics - The amount of knockback in the upper levels, trust me, you'll be glad you got this.
  • Maneuvers - This is for some extra defense. And provides incentive for the Team to stick close to boost you're Assassination strike.

I think you can work out the purples... This is how I would build a Claws/Nin.

I admit, I have very little experience with Stalkers. So, no problems adjusting the build from scratch. That was what I wanted you to do. :lol

On a side question, would Caltrops be considered an optional power in the sense that you can take it, but it's not a "you must have this"? I
imagine they'd be useful for getting an extra critical in, at least, in my experience of needing that extra two seconds of uninterruption to drop back into
Hide. Unless that can be enhanced.

Also, does Moonbeam, as a sniper, get the automatic critical that your other attacks do? This was initially why I picked it, as it'd essentially allow a
Hidden sniper to do some stupidly high damage if it did.

Caltrops is a highly optional power... so optional in fact that I've never seen a /Nin stalker with it. My advice? Leave it to the /Trap MM and Corr.
Caltrops slows the mobs on it, as some of the Legendary have found out (Bucket of Bactine anyone? Smile ) and does 'trivial' damage, it doesn't really
give you free criticals or Hide. The best way to do that is to take a leaf out of a Tanker book - break LoS. Then there are other tricks... such as basically:
go to Range, Moving fast, Run to the nearest Brute, target selection, etc. Yes it does provide Slows, but they (the mob) know who to blame and so they will
focus on you.

Moonbeam is a Sniper as you point out. But its a sniper, and hence slow. From memory is doesn't crit from hidden. And team's, particularly fast moving
teams barely tolerate Stalkers need to stop attacking for 8 seconds for get hidden. Toss in a 'can't move' attack on top, and well, in my
experience it's not the best combo. Dark Blast fires fast, can be used from hidden if you wish, and from the non hidden state. You don't get any
bonuses from any of the Patron Powers if I recall correctly. Patrons Powers give you a long range attack or a hold or PvP powers or something extra.

Oh for the record, my stalkers? MA/Regen (25), she can scrap if needed, Spin/Regen (18): Stalks, Dark/Dark(28): Scraps, Claws/SR(8): Stalks, and my Nin/Nin(1):
Terminates (eventually)!

Next time I'm on, if you want tag along with one of my stalkers and I'll give you some of the tips I've learned.
