I suspect you might have missed the whole point of that excerpt then. Carl Sagan was arguing against people just believing things without having the appropriate evidence, and making a point about evidence and how the scientific process works. It's from a book called "The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark". Wonderful book.

Protestantism is a branch of Christianity. Basically speaking, if you believe in Jesus Christ, the son of God, who sacrificed himself for everyone's sins, then AFAIK that classes you as a Christian.
In any case, you are arguing for the existence of a deity that you cannot prove the existence of. Nor can anyone else. Sounds rather like Mr. Sagan's invisible, incorporeal dragon, doesn't it?
