Depends on if Boehner sneaked or sneaks a quiet deal with the dems

A CR is now in the cards. Not enough time to do a full budget. His successor will have to do that job. That's why Dec 11 is going to be the key date. That's why I see at least 2 weeks of of shutdown at that point.

Well the week leading up to New Years is normally dead anyway. I am going to be on vacation the whole month. If shutdown happens then,no skin off my nose. Of course it gets tricky at that point.

If he did, the government is still open. The CR is in effect. Where did you get your news from?
Looks like another deadline Nov.5 debt limit is reached.

here's the quote from the article

Quote:In other remarks, which ranged from Friday's economic numbers to the school shooting in Oregon on Thursday, Obama said he would not sign another continuing resolution after the latest temporary measure to avoid a federal government shutdown was passed by Congress this week. That continuing resolution, which keeps the government running based on last fiscal year's budget, will expire in December. Until then, Congress must work on passing a real FY 2016 budget.

"It only sets up another manufactured crisis two weeks before Christmas," Obama said of the latest CR. "This is not how the United States should be operating. We can't keep kicking the can down the road. American families deserve better."

so i misremembered, but its wording doesnt change what was meant.

and here is the link from ABC since i know you don't trust Fox ABC Breaking News | Latest News Videos[/url]

Actually the current CR as you said is good, what he was saying in the linked news conference was that he would not do any more and that congress would have to send him a full budget that he would aapprove of. The problem is that this will simply not happen because the republicans know that the public is tired of them caving to his demands. Thus if they do, the establishment republicans know that the conservative movement will take over the party and they will be out on their collective beaurocratic asses.

How do they know that? Has an impartial body taken polls and released the results? Or is this just an assumption?

'Cause, what I'm seeing from the outside is that the public is tired of the impasse, and blaming both sides.

Well, we already went down the CR road in 2013 and got a shutdown anyway. So...might as well have a shutdown on Dec 11 ,then see who caves first.

Okay, now we're talking chaos here. McCarthy decided not to go for the speakership. That means Boehner is still speaker until someone gets elected. Not for long while. So is the shutdown still on or not?

Heh-heh. Sudden Realization: the Speaker of the House position is now a hot potato that nobody wants, because even the Tea Party realizes that it will be political suicide to be the SotH when the shutdown happens. (Because, let's face it, the Tea Party is gonna push hard to get what they want, and what they want is another shut down.)

But, it gives Boehner freedom to have a budget pass until after the election even if he has to work with Democrats to do it.

What I don't get (other than it being the media's spin on it) is why they insist on it being the house's fault for the shutdown. When the budget gets a DOA from the Senate it means negotiating but a presidential veto means HE shut it down because he wants what he wantsand wont take no for an answer. Does that mean that the house is supposed to go "Oh, we're sorry Mr. President, we'll give you everything you want, just let us stab our voters in the back real quick so we can roll over and show you our belly."

Y'know, those two branches of government could try working together.

Drop the partisan policies and do what's in the interests of the citizens - not just a subset of the voters, all the citizens. Why is that such a radical idea? It's how you used to do things...
