The good doctor is a kidnap rescue victim from the blueside scanner mishes.

All of the dialog involved in the mission includes the phrase "merely a gifted surgeon, nothing more."

Hmm My first thought was that Fayte was a homage to Dr. Strange Tongue

Right - here's the Police Radio mission text.

The gag is that the line - "he's just a gifted surgeon, and nothing more" is repeated by the villains several times.

Something like - "You fool! He's not a sorcerer! He's merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!"

And Fayte himself would reply, "Yes, you have the wrong man, for I am merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more."

The 'traditional joke' - if you take this mission with a group - is to play along with the obvious Jedi Mind Trick thing and to repeat the line
YOURSELF.

"Boy, I'm glad we got him out of there, for he's merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!"

If someone disagrees, then reinforce the gag -

"But, you're just going along with it, he's mind controlling you!"

"No, he couldn't possibly do that, because he's merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!"

And on, and on, etc...

So I picked up this mission for like the 3rd time and I'm always happy to see it, because it gives me a chuckle.

Then the light went on over my head.

"Saaaaaaay.... Surely that name isn't available?"

Quickly log out, do name check.

"Sonovabitch! Well! How am I supposed to refuse an open invitation like THAT?"

And so it was. He may get genericced, sure, but it will be WORTH IT.

Because, as soon as I can, I hope to walk into Pocket D to thank some of the heroes who've rescued me in the past.

"For I am merely a gifted surgeon and nothing more."

... but what if I DO get the radio mission where I'm assigned to rescue Dr. Stephen Fayte...

And I'm PLAYING Dr. Stephen Fayte? O_O

Obviously, there can't possibly be astral projection, time travel, or any other similar shenanigans going on, because only a master sorcerer could carry
them out, and the good Doctor is merely a gifted surgeon, nothing more.

He's just a gifted surgeon, who sometimes works for Oroborus (hey, they need medical treatment too. 8P )
