Alternatives to Deep Sleep Cells
Alternatives to Deep Sleep Cells
#1
Just curious as to whether there was any development in the area of power-dampening or such technologies in the IST setting. I don't recall anything, other than the Deep Sleep Cells for dealing with metacriminals, but I could be mistaken and a cursory glance at my pdf of IST didn't show anything. I am assuming the answer is "no" and that for those prisoners not remanded to Deep Sleep, specialized methods for countering individual powers were needed. I know some psi-tech existed in the form of psi-shields and such for dealing specifically with psychic abilities, but I don't recall there being anything that neutralized non-psi abilities reliably.

Thanks,

-Mike

I don't recall anything...

And Bob's smack in the middle of the path of last night's nor'easter, so I don't know when he'll next be online.

(Edit: Two minutes after I post that, Bob logs in...)

The answer is indeed no. The Warriors have "holding cells" with unspecified power suppression technology, but when I wrote IST I wanted to use as much as possible from other GURPS source books so I didn't invent any new tech I didn't have to.

But then again, that was for 1990. Who knows what may have been developed in the ensuing 22 years?

(The Nor'easter, btw, was a bit of a dud in my neighbhorhood -- an inch of snow, all dropped before 9PM, and only one heavy gust of wind that I noticed. 15 miles away, Freehold got 13 inches. And according to JCP&L's storm outage page my mom's town went from 2% power outage to 28% overnight, which may negatively impact our plans to take her home tomorrow...)

Thanks. My skimming of the pdf revealed nothing that jumped out at me, but then again I have missed the blindingly obvious before.

I've introduced a couple of characters in the campaign setting I'm working on for it who have damping abilities; both basically just re-write local reality to make such physics bending powers simply not function; one by wishing it so, the other by creating reality quakes wherever he goes.

Basically the jailers of the IST universe have to be pretty creative to reliably lock up metahumans if they aren't willing to use DS.
