Easter Eggs in my books
Easter Eggs in my books
#1
Whenever possible, I like to bury a joke or two in my books. Sometimes they get caught by the editorial staff and removed -- like the deleted entry in Camelot for "Sir Brusewain/Brusewayne/Brucewaine, the Dark Knight of Gotham in Nottinghamshire" -- but most of the rest made it through.
So... has anyone reading this ever found one or more of them? Or should I drop some hints?

I hate to admit it here, but I don't have any of your books. I've never done a gurps-based supers game, and I don't do WOD anymore for reasons far to complicated to go into in a public forum [Image: smile.gif]

I haven't found a good place to put one -- nor a good inspiration for a subtle joke -- yet.

Okay, since no one has followed up on this, here's a hint.
Anyone who owns a copy of IST: study the power structure above IST Command.

Well, I have a copy of IST. I looked. And I don't see an obvious joke here. Maybe it's a reference I've never seen?-Logan

It helps if you know some 1960s spy-themed television shows...

Now you've done it. I have to go find a copy of this. Let me take a few wild guesses:
1. There's a pair of IST operatives that masquerade as a tennis star and his trainer.
2. There's a detainment center on the coast of England, where all the inmates are referred to by number, rather than name, and varied psychological warfare scenarios are played out on them to get them to answer questions about their missions.
3. A museum has a particular and very special train and passenger car on display, dated back to the Grant Presidency.
4. A suave and debonair thief is wanted by the IST for various reasons. Some agents might think that he resembles a noted agent of MI6.
5. CONTROL fights a neverending battle against KAOS.
Am I close?

You forgot:
6. Russian and American agents work as a team to handle various affairs; the girl gets her own spinoff.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.; the spinoff was The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. "U.N.C.L.E." in this case stood for "United Network Command for Law Enforcement."
If that doesn't point someone right at the egg in I.S.T. I'll be very disappointed in my readership.

Huh. That means I only got about half of them, kinda. I totaly don't get the significance of the railcar, except that it was apparently the one used for the treaty of Verseiles (sp?)"I was an Otaku before those kids came along and changed the meaning of the word."

Poor SR4 - doesn't even know a Wild Wild West ref when he sees one.
Blessed be.

Isn't that because I told the prereaders' list once?
Seriously, Nathan, drop me a private email and let me know your guess.

Got it in one. Although, to clarify, I didn't say that they were in the book, merely that I was making wild guesses. The others are as follows:
1. "I Spy"
2. "The Prisoner"
3. Wild Wild West
4. The Saint (originally played by Roger Moore, hence the reference to his better-known role of James Bond)
5. "Get Smart"
In hindsight, I probably should've added a reference to a certain bowler-wearing British agent and his series of female partners, the best-known of which often wore tight jumpsuits and a string of pearls. That's "The Avengers" for those who don't watch The Mystery Channel on AT&T Broadband.

Okay, it's been almost five months, and I all but gave it away already.
The International Super Teams are administered by IST Command, which in turn answers to the Committee on Law Enforcement.

Yeah, I know it's a bit of a groaner, but it's hard to bury a good, detailed injoke. Most of my attempts to do so -- like the Camelot one mentioned at the start of the thread -- get caught and killed. (And no, the Secretary does not disavow any knowledge of their actions... )
