Another far-distant teaser
Another far-distant teaser

From the currently-projected Chapter 13:

I'm going to venture the guess that this is Severus Snape speaking, because of the emphasis on justice being for wrongs done to "you" as opposed to wrongs done to others, which to my mind tends to rule out Doug, and because I don't see love and truth as even being on Voldemort's radar.  It could of course be someone else -- one of the true-believing Death Eaters being oddly insightful, perhaps, but lacking any other information, I'll stick with the Snape theory.

Heh.
Okay, further treat.  At this far out the following is very much subject to change, but here is, roughly, the current projected "soundtrack" for the Ministry Battle.  Some of these are power songs for Doug, some of these are "background music", and some of these are... other.  When I get a chance later I'll edit this to include YouTube links, but for now the plain list:
  1. "Thunder Road", Bruce Springsteenhttp://www.youtube.com/v/RMB3M43AEpc&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  2. "Break On Through", The Doorshttp://www.youtube.com/v/cJQwnAhXnBk&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  3. "Dovahkiin", The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimhttp://www.youtube.com/v/UsnRQJxanVM&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  4. "Wind's Four Quarters", Leslie Fishhttp://www.youtube.com/v/up-jdrGIvL0&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  5. "Inside of You, In Spite of You", ThouShaltNothttp://www.youtube.com/v/fqjIMsLRz94&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  6. "Indestructible", Disturbedhttp://www.youtube.com/v/aWxBrI0g1kE&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  7. "Ballroom Blitz", The Sweethttp://www.youtube.com/v/cN9jTnxv0RU&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  8. "Supernova", The Echoing Greenhttp://www.youtube.com/v/FFyeCfEAk88&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  9. "I Burn", Jeff Williams featuring Casey Williamshttp://www.youtube.com/v/_XoOt-5pW_Q&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  10. "Radioactive", Imagine Dragonshttp://www.youtube.com/v/ktvTqknDobU&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  11. "Let It Go", Idina Menzelhttp://www.youtube.com/v/moSFlvxnbgk&version=3 ... tube_gdata
  12. "Mirror Spell", Heather Alexanderhttp://www.youtube.com/v/kN62ErJhkPI&version=3 ... tube_gdata
(Sorry about the embeds, making simple links to YouTube seems to be much harder than it used to be.)

Yeah, I was wondering if he'd pull out #6 there.

Definitely NOT a "kid gloves" list there, but as has been noted, Warriors never went for half-measures when wading into combat. When they say, "never start a fight, always finish it," it generally does mean don't fire the first shot, and BOOM HEADSHOT is always the correct answer. Smile

#1: Get there.
#2: Get in.

That much is obvious...

Dovahkiin ether gives Doug Shouts or some sort of luck bonus for being a "detined protagonist"....

Well, the version I'll eventually link here isn't in English (or French, or Japanese, or Valdemaran) so that eliminates one possibility...

Wild Mass Guessing: I can't help but notice that Bob specifically mentions "power songs for Doug" as one of the categories, along with "background music" and "other". I'm probably reading too much into it, but that makes me think that "other" means "power songs for somebody else".Edit: Also, an aside. I haven't seen the film, so my first thought upon seeing the end of the sequence for "Let it Go" was a reference to another role for which Idina Menzel is famous: "Hello, Elpheba." (Disclaimer: I haven't actually seen or read any incarnation of Wicked either, though I did read several chapters of (someone else's copy of) Son of a Witch. It's just that "Let it Go" and "Defying Gravity" have such heart-wrenching similarity: a positive and uplifting song about how the character has a freeing revelation – one that turns her into a villain in the eyes of others.)

I have to wonder if "Magic Man" by Heart will get any play at some point in this story.  Because if ever there were universes where calling up Dwimanor would be fitting, this has to be one of them.  Can you picture Dwimanor and Dumbledore as Back-to-Back Badasses while Doug and the students are tied up with some other aspect of whatever problem they face?
Compounded by the fact that producing the simulacrum means Doug can't use any other song magic until either "Magic Man" expires or the enemy D&D are battling does -- here's hoping he's gotten really good with his chicken wand by then....

Dong won't need to play "Magic Man" for a simulacrum of Dwimanor to appear. And the reason why should be obvious to anyone who's read all the old teasers.

"Inside of You, In Spite of You"

A simple telefrag.

Or something nightmarish.
Or perhaps even a more nightmarish death than that....

I take it you listened to the song, or are already familiar with it. Yeah, it does inspire that kind of "or maybe... or maybe... or maybe" thinking, doesn't it?

Has any kind of betting pool been established on, say, what chapter it'll be when Hermione finally decides that in order to get good information on the mysterious Professor Sangnoir, she's going to have to snoop in his quarters?  I'm snickering to imagine what sorts of reactions she'll have to some of the photographs in his collection.  I for one don't have a good enough feel for the pacing, yet, to make an educated guess ... and you indicated in the first post of this thread that we're going for at least 13 chapters.
Why, no; I don't think she'll be able to restrain herself from snooping.  I'm getting a very definite feeling from this story (and it doesn't strike me as contradicting anything in the books) that young Ms. Granger feels secrets are something she and her closest friends can keep -- as long as they don't try to keep things from her, of course -- but no one else is entitled to have secrets, at least not of anything she wants to know.    Actually, in that respect she reminds me somewhat of Amelia Peabody Emerson....

She'll only snoop after Daphne and a Great Dane join the Golden Trio.

On a more serious front, the story is currently projected to run 13 chapters. That may change -- the original chapter 3 is now split between 3 and 4 and it's possible other chapters may grow too long and need division, too. But I'm going to try to keep that from happening.

As for Hermione's curiosity, well, I could spoil the bet. But I won't. Let's just say that she doesn't have to break into his quarters to get enough information. But the idea is a good one, I am tempted if only for the idea of her looking through the photos.
