Question about Doug's helmet-computer
Question about Doug's helmet-computer
#1
I've been asking Bob a few questions about Doug and the Walk lately, but they've been spoilers so they were by e-mail. This one isn't a spoiler, and other folks might be interested in the answer, so...
When Doug's helmet computer is in combat mode, just how much of a hair-trigger is it on?
For example, which of these would trigger the healing song?
a) Doug says "System. I'm Alive. Play" - we've seen that work.
b) Somebody else says "System. I'm Alive. Play" while wearing the helmet.
c) Somebody else says "System. I'm Alive. Play" while beside the helmet.
d) Doug says "...blah blah blah System, I'm Alive. Play blah blah blah..." (replacing "blah blah blah" with normal dialogue)
e) Doug says "...blah blah blah system blah blah blah I'm Alive blah blah blah Play blah blah blah..." (again, replacing "blah blah blah" with normal dialogue)
f) Doug says "System", then waits for a few seconds, then says "I'm Alive", then waits for a minute, then says "Play".
g) Doug says "System", somebody else says something, Doug says "I'm Alive", somebody else says something, Doug says "Play".

I'm gonna look into the crystal ball and say that we have a binary possibility tree, here. Bob will either respond with
a) It's only a show, you should really just relax.
or
b) a detailed, internally cohesive set of voice command rules.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

Well, yeah... but I want to use something like one of those possibilities in BSBW...

Somehow I knew that was coming ... and I'm just slightly too well-bred to actually drool at the thought.
A friend of mine once brought up the notion that a fast-talking enemy might be able to deactivate a voice-controlled system as quickly as the user could activate it. (In reference to the Metal Storm Vle pistol.)
Cop: High-velocity full metal jacket.
Gun computer: High-veloc--
Crook: Safety!
Gun computer: Safety engaged.
Cop: Aaargh!
Of course, Doug's got voice-recognition in the helmet, doesn't he? Or are you thinking about tricking him into calling for a song he didn't want to play, a la:
Daffy: I'm a dirty skunk?! I'M a dirty skunk?!
Bugs holds up sign reading "Dirty Skunk Season"; Elmer dutifully shoots Daffy.

Oh, yeah, I grok that. I wasn't expecting you to tell me what you plan. I simply figured, just in case you hadn't thought of one of those possibilities, it couldn't hurt to put ideas into your head. (Couldn't hurt me, anyway; Doug may suffer for it.)

If I get a chance, I'll give a proper answer to this tonight.
