(mumbling the number because there are so many)

The Fenspace folks know that I'm starting to get into 3D modeling. Renderosity recently made http://market.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/i ... duct=84303]this character available for sale, and I've bought a copy. Now all I have to do is change the tattoos - they're a separate image layer, so it should be easy - and find a croquet/polo mallet, an appropriate outfit, and the hairdo (that "antenna hair" is going to be tricky).

So, that's the youngest Goddess covered (at least partway). I wonder how long it'll take to find the others...

... is it just me, or is anyone feeling slightly uncomfortable that Renderosity felt the need to go with Loli-esque images for its marketing?

Renderosity uses the images that the artists provide. The character was wearing a swimsuit in that "Content Advisory" image - usually, the "Content Advisory" image of a character from that artist is completely nude (and obviously of a person who's passed the age of majority).

So I didn't notice any squick factor there, no... but squick is relative.

(Grumble mumble - Neither ShareCG nor Renderosity has a croquet/polo mallet available. Now I'm going to have to look at the hard-to-search places for one...)

Make one, two cylinders, one polished wood textured the other painted wood or metal, how hard can it be?
I rather suspect that 3D modelling is like playing the bagpipes: the basics are easy to learn. Getting appealing results, on the other hand...
EDIT: Unlike the bagpipes, 3D modelling lets you directly use and learn from other people's work. My point was that Rob might just not be comfortable making his own models yet, even one as "simple" as a mallet. I know I wouldn't be.
and, I should note, that Skuld's is not a very simple mallet. lots of bumps and ridges to it to get it just so.

And a complex mat job to get the colours right, too. Right now, I'm still learning the basics. Maybe after I take a two-week vacation this summer and spend only one week away, I'll be able to play with software for a week.

Anyway... no "ahoge hair" or "croquet set" to be found anywhere that I know where to look. I'll have to ask around...

If you've got the Multi-Layer editor for Daz, you can put tattoos like that on any character without leaving Daz.  Basically, it makes a new .dsi file that you can use as a texture (and auto-loads it).  I actually used it to make Pink's costume (as a basic fucntion, I just inverted the color of the black costume mat and then made the diffuse color pink) and Argurous' costume (I put a white lightning bolt on the V4 leotard).  This is a pre-lux image I did using it.  If you look at her chest, the tattoo on her chest is made with the Multi-Layer Image Editor.
Bruno (from the SJGames fora) has given me the information on how to make individual mat-zones light sources (for Lux/Reality), but I haven't been successful.
Thanks for the tip. I don't have the Multi-Layer Editor yet, but a new month (and thus a new Platinum Club voucher) is coming up soon...

Here's a quick and dirty (only 30 minutes of rendering time, needs several more hours) of Skuld.  MonkeyFist says I need to move the cheek marks.  So, I'll probably do that.  The mallet is an old A3 prop.  MonkeyFist is seeing what he can do about making a mallet.  Clicking on the picture takes you to the full sized one.
(Edit: Found a hole in the outfit that I had to fix by moving her arm as I'm too lazy to add a morph target right now.  Removed her Stepford Smile and gave her a better one.  Lowered her cheek marks)
(Edit 2: Weird linking error, had to correct)
(Edit 3: Added the picture at the 2:10 mark, before I went to work)
Edit 4: Purged pictures we're not using from my photobucket and Yuku galleries.
http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/easteregg/tv-promo.jpg]Reference image - a bit more "cheesecake" than is normal for the character, but it does show off her proportions and the facial markings.

More reference images, for the mallet: http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/easteregg/skuld-cd.jpg]CD cover detail, http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/eastere ... erable.jpg]the "she's still a pre-teen" image I like best, and http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/eastere ... walkby.jpg]black-and-white but shows the proportions of the mallet.

And, one of these months, I'm going to take a stab at modifying either http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/cour ... ?item=6769]Courageous or http://sharecg.com/v/43806/gallery/Pose ... eFreak4-S4]Galadriel to look like http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/eastere ... sician.jpg]this dress, because it's my favourite of her outfits...

I was going to say that the hair is too feathery -- it should lay in big thick locks and strands -- but Rob's reference images are sufficient for that.

I'll take a look at the hair I have at home (or if either of you guys see hair that works, shoot me a link).
MonkeyFist came through (for those of you who deal with the Daz Fora, he's HandofBobb) with a mallet.  He also made this one because he was bored.

If I knew of any, I would have used it in a test render by now. The closest I've seen is http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/v3-sp-wild?item=1250]Wild and Messy Hair, but that isn't very close...

Welcome to the world of 3d rendering.  Unless you're a modeler and an artist, you'll spend a lot of time looking for what's close as well as "what I can live with."  I always try to aim to capture the feel of the character because getting the EXACT character is always difficult, if not impossible.  I have scads and scads of hair at home, that I can look through.
It needs more volume, but what about this hair.  I picked it up on Monday and haven't worked with it yet.
That has some potential...

Anyway, I checked my email before intending to log off, and noticed that I hadn't deleted the latest Renderosity mass-mailing - the one about their current hair sale. "D'oh!" Fifteen minutes later, I've spotted a couple that are sort-of close - http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=11872]Sweet Angela and http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/angst-hair/78811]Angst. Bob, what do you think of these and Mark's suggestion of Elleth?

(If we were modeling Belldandy instead of her younger sister, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/lydia-hair/81786]Lydia Hair in honey-blonde would be spot-on for a "domestic Goddess" render. But we aren't rendering Belldandy right now.)

(And http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/inde ... duct=72077]this hairdo is completely wrong for the Goddesses, but completely right for a Fenspace character that I want to model myself if I can get it in purple... so I'll just add that to my wishlist so I don't lose it. I've got a paycheck coming before it goes back to regular price.)

I think, in some dark recess of my Runtime Directory, I may have the Lydia hair.  If not, I'll have to get it.  My plan was not to just do Skuld (mmmmm, Skuld. Sorry!  Pervert moment) and disappear, but to help with the three Goddesses I know about.
I've already got an idea of where to start for Urd (mmmmm, Urd.  That, I'm not sorry about); I'm going to base her off of Holly, probably using the same hair (just in white, instead of dark honey).
Quote:Bob, what do you think of these and Mark's suggestion of Elleth?
"Sweet Angela" looks like a good Urd candidate despite that wad of hair on the top. Can't say as I think "Angst" really works -- it seems more like Elvira than any of the goddesses. "Elleth" might work for Skuld if it had more volume and length to it in the front. Oh, and yes, "Lydia" does look like a good Belldandy hair.
Quote:I'm going to base her off of Holly, probably using the same hair (just in white, instead of dark honey).
Mm. Yes, that would work.

As I said, I haven't worked with the Elleth hair yet, but if it doesn't have increased volume for the front, I know ways of doing it.  I'll give it a try tonight, when I get home.  Maybe, when I get up tomorrow, I'll have a more useful picture.
I don't usually try to reproduce actual characters, but use them for inspiration.  Urd wasn't the inspiration for Holly, but when I started thinking about how to do the other Goddesses, she was the first place my mind went for Urd.  Mmmmmm, Urd.  (Still not sorry about that, I proud to be a pervert.)  Holly's hair is the same hair that Pink has, just with different colors and gain-settings.
I'm only, really, familiar with the big three Goddesses, and I'm aware of Peorth (I'm pretty sure I've got some bondage gear in my Runtime that would work for her).  So, beyond them, I may not be much help.
Here's the new version.  How does this hair look?  I have to admit that I'm a little short on the non-sexy/skimpy outfits that Skuld wears.
Edit:  Purged pictures we're not using from my photobucket and Yuku galleries.
Oh, definitely closer. Can you control the length of the hair? Because at least some of the illos of Skuld show hair down to her calves or even ankles.

If you need to buy it, stick it on your wishlist (and tell me what your Renderosity name is so I can find your wishlist) and I'll buy it for you. Think of it as a "thank you" for all the IST and Goddess work you've been doing.

I believe I've already mentioned http://sharecg.com/v/43806/gallery/Pose ... eFreak4-S4]Galadriel (free at ShareCG) - make the skirt mid-length, shorten the sleeves, and apply one of the many textures for it on ShareCG, and you should have something suitable for Skuld even if it isn't something she's been shown to wear in canon.

Or stick her in jeans and a t-shirt...

Oh, yes.  I can make the hair longer.  I likes me long hair, but wasn't sure how long you wanted it.
I've got some jeans, t-shirts and some jackets.  Here's the final render of this version before I go back and fix some more.
Edit:  Here's the new version, new outfit, longer hair.  Most of the pictures I've looked at show her hair tends to stay between waist and top-of-thighs length.  Yes, there are some with redonkulous length (I like redonkulous hair), but the vast majority of images I could find had her with "more reasonable" length hair.  MonkeyFist just told me that the little bauble at the end of her hammer is supposed to be a gem of som sort . . ..  He's not 100% sure, neither am I.  So, I'll wait for confirmation.
Edit 2:  Updated the picture after 3:20 in engine, before I go to work.
Edit 3:  Purged pictures we're not using from my photobucket and Yuku galleries.
