The Humphrey Bogart line - revealed!
Posted by: M Fnord - 09-25-2002, 03:46 AM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk II: Robot's Rules of Order - Replies (6)

..well, okay, sort of. I remember the cartoon but I don't remember the name of it, curse my quirky memory.
Anyway...
The 'toon in question had Bugs wind up in Paris (via getting packed into a shipment of carrots from the States) and becoming the target of two rival French chefs. The usual antics enuse of course, until Bugs persuades Chef A (no, I don't remember the names) to let him demonstrate a secret bayou recipe for roast rabbit - using the chef as the rabbit.
Near the end of the sequence Chef B rushes in, mistakes Bugs for Chef A and tries to make off with the covered roastpan with the chef in it. Chef B lifts the lid, and we get our line:
Chef B: !
Chef A: You were expecting maybe Humphrey Bogart?
Explanations, demands and a pretty funny ending follow. I'm *pretty* sure this is a McKimson cartoon, maybe mid-50s, but don't quote me on that.

  KODOCHA ANIME IS SHUTTING DOWN!
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-24-2002, 04:26 AM - Forum: Marketplace - No Replies

I mentioned this before over on the DW3 forum, but this is a more appropriate place:
If you want to get fansubs of Kodomo no Omocha (aka "Kodocha"), you'd best do it now! Kodocha Anime, the primary source of Kodocha fansubs, is shutting down in six weeks or less. They will take orders up until the end of October, but after that, forget it. Run, don't walk, to www.animemetropolis.com/k.../main.html and make your orders. They take Paypal and are very fast on their turnaround.

  DSM Duelists' Store Opens
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-24-2002, 12:47 AM - Forum: Marketplace - No Replies

This pushes the bounds of what I defined this area for, but hell, I'm the board op, I can do what I want. Actually, I know that a lot of DW's readers are also EPU fans, so here's a little EPU stuff just for them:
The Deedlit Satori Mandeville Memorial Institute Duelists' Society Cafepress.com store has just opened for business!

  Buying and Selling
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-24-2002, 12:45 AM - Forum: Marketplace - No Replies

Honestly, I don't expect a lot of traffic in this area. But I've been planning to open a Cafepress.com online store for DW and Warriors merchandise for about a year now, and I just may get to it soon...
Anyone else, well, you're welcome to post here if it has some relevance to my site or my writing, or you can convince me it's in the general interest of the community here. Used copies of my books and stuff like that are always welcome. But I'm going to stomp on anything that seems out of place or spammish! Be forewarned!

Hi all, it's me, better known as Croaker in many places (like, say, the Eyrie boards), but the name was taken here, so I used one of my other ones. [Image: smile.gif]

  Beam me up, Fred!!!

There's too much intelligent life down here!!!
I'm the second non pre-reader, non MIB to sign up.
I'm also the one who writes another universe hopping fic. When Bob first started posting DW-2 to the FFML I panicked. It seems that he and I came up with similar ideas at just about the same time. The two leading charecters both even started out as V&V charecters.
Of course, my only concern now adays is that DW is so much better known (and more than a touch better written, thank's to Bob's professional writing experiances) that some people might think I ripped his idea off.
Not that my own following believes that... its just that the following of my story is smaller than Bob's; in fact, I've noticed that the folks who do read my stuff also read Bob's, and a lot are also Rabid Crack Weasels in good standing as well."I was an Otaku before those kids came along and changed the meaning of the word."

So we were at the movies today...
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-23-2002, 04:15 AM - Forum: General DW Chatter - Replies (2)

... and saw both "XXX" and "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever" (which my mind keeps trying to conflate together as "Ballistic: XXX vs. Sever", but never mind that...).
Anyway, in front of "XXX" was a trailer for a film called "The Transporter" -- and if the action in the trailer is any indication of the rest of the movie, I'm going to see it. Because the title character moves like I envision Looney Toons can, but don't have enough imagination to describe. Wow.

Teasers from Drunkard's Walk 5: Holy, Holy, Holy... Cow!
Posted by: Bob Schroeck - 09-22-2002, 04:57 AM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk V: Another Divine Mess You've Gotten Me Into - Replies (36)

Just like with the Evangelion teasers, it's up to you to decide if this is treat or torture. If I don't do DW3 right after I've finished DW2, then I'll go right to this, as it has long-term implications for the rest of the Walk.
Once again, given the length of time until I'm likely to release this, it's possible that these scenes could disappear or change unrecognizably before you see them in their proper context.
Enjoy.

* * *Location Unknown, Date Unknown, Time UnknownAs I have so frequently mentioned in these chronicles, I amsubject to unconsciousness when I make a jump from universe touniverse. The jump out of Holland Township was no exception. This time was one of the more comfortable awakenings. Soft, warmbed -- a definite novelty where my arrivals were concerned. Idrifted for a little while between unconsciousness andconsciousness, enjoying the comfort. But I soon realized thatthere were people nearby, and that discovery prodded me from mygentle haze into full awakening.I opened my eyes to find that I was on a futon or mat in a roomthat looked vaguely 20th-century Japanese in style. I was alsothe center of attention for a small crowd. Three beautifulwomen, all apparently in their twenties -- two Euro, one Asian, with the Asian woman notably shorter than the other two. Onebarely-pubescent girl, Euro, cute. And a short Asian guy. TheEuros all had odd facial marks, maybe tattoos, and I wonderedbriefly what that might imply. The range of expressions directedat me would have been amusing had I not been the target -- anassortment that started with unabashed concern on the face of oneof the Euro women, through a devil-may-care grin on the other, tothe girl's intense and obvious suspicion. The Asian woman andguy both simply looked confused, with overtones of worry.I'm used to provoking a wide variety of reactions from people, but this was ridiculous. I mean, I'd been unconscious the entiretime I'd been here so far. I hadn't had the chance to doanything obnoxious yet..."" I croaked in English. One of the Euro women, a sweet-faced beauty with improbably-longhoney-blonde hair, leaned over me and brushed her fingertipsalong my forehead. The touch left a lingering tingle that wasstrangely pleasant. "" she replied with agentle smile. Her voice was as sweet as her looks; her bell-liketones were strangely familiar. "
