Crossovers That Should Not Be XVII: Post 16 threads, and what'd'ya get?

http://drunkardswalkforums.yuku.com/top ... ve-Company]Old thread is old. New thread is new.

Not mine - posted by KDLadage to the Silly Tolkien Crossovers thread on the SJGames forums:
Quote:"I don't get it boss? Why would anyone want to carry a magic ring to a volcano and throw it in?"

"How many times do I have to explain this to you, Tatoo? It's his fantasy, not yours."

And one by Asta Kask (who really should be posting his own crossovers, now that he has an account here) to the same thread, slightly modified:
Quote:For Love and Justice, the pretty sailor suited soldier Sailor Eowyn! In the name of the moon I will punish you!

  To Summon a Solar-Powered Juggernaut...
Posted by: DeputyJones - 08-07-2013, 08:13 AM - Forum: The Game Everyone Loves To Play - Replies (4)

I can see Doug finding out that this song is a Summoning song after visiting a DC universe... and promptly locking it away on his 'Do Not Play' list. Reason? The song summons a random Kryptonian (must have been named IRL). While most variations of Kal and Kara are generally affable, after a close call in hope of back-up and getting some 'Zod' guy, Eimi told him of some other not-so-pleasant "Children of the Sun" he might end up calling forth and he decided it wasn't worth the risk.
Performed by Billy Thorpe, Written by Billy Thorpe and Spencer D. Proffer
People of the Earth can you hear me?Came a voice from the sky on that magical nightAnd in the colors of a thousand sunsetsThey traveled through the world on a silvery light
The people of the Earth stood waitingWatching as the ships came one by oneSetting fire to the sky as they landedCarrying to the world children of the sunChildren of the sun
All at once came a sound from the insideThen a beam made of light hit the groundEveryone felt the sound of their heartbeatEvery man, every woman, every child
They passed the limits of imaginationThrough the doors to a world of another timeAnd on the journey of a thousand lifetimesWith the children of the sun, they started to climb
Children of the sun, children of the sun
No more gravity, nothing holding them downFloating endlessly as their ship leaves the groundThrough the walls of time, at the speed of lightFlies the crystal ships on their celestial flight(On their celestial flight)
Children of the sun, children of the sunChildren of the sun
Children of the sun, children of the sunChildren of the sun, children of the sunChildren of the sun, children of the sunChildren of the sun, children of the sun

So is anyone else reading the Bleach Quest? (spoilers are the point)
Posted by: classicdrogn - 08-07-2013, 05:18 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (3)

I run out of memory on ch20 pt4 JUST as Ichigo goes FUUULL KUUUBOOO!! with a double 20 and turns it around. Could someone summarize how the fights actually end? Unlike every other board I visit, throwing it in spoiler tags is fine, since yuku hides it with a script instead of revealing it or using text the same color as the background, which I have no way of highlighting. That's not the only part it happened on (#12 almost made me ask before) but 21 doesn't even give a 'last time' at the beginning.

  Pro Writing Quizzes
Posted by: robkelk - 08-06-2013, 03:33 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

There are a few quizzes out there that let you determine whether you're a professional writer. http://whatever.scalzi.com/2013/08/05/p ... nd-result/]John Scalzi posted one to his blog yesterday, and it's the first one that I've been able to see the logic behind:

Quote:Here’s the actual quiz for knowing whether you are a pro writer or not:

1. Are you getting paid to write?

If the answer here is “yes,” then congratulations, you’re a professional writer! Well done you (if not, then “no.” Sorry).
For the context, go read the blog entry. Actually, go read the blog entry anyway - it has a lot to say on matters that don't necessarily involve pro writing.

Graphic Novel rec: "Peter Pan" by Regis Loisel
Posted by: nemonowan - 08-06-2013, 02:07 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

I just found out that last month, a collected english edition of this 6-volume french graphic novel was published by Soaring Penguin.
I read the original years ago, and wholeheartedly recommend it.
It is basically a prequel to the novel, telling how the urchin Peter, son of a single alcoholic mother in Dickensian London was befriended by a little fairy and taken to a fantasy land inhabited by legendary creatures (like fairies, mermaids or centaurs) led by the faun Pan, who are struggling against Hook, the privateer that stumbled upon the island and covets the treasure that a mermaid told him exists there. Peter will travel between London and Neverland many times, and experience many a triumph and tragedy before deciding to remain in the island forever.
The story is darker and more mature than the novel. You can google for many reviews and previews, and if you are interested it is available in Amazon and other online booksellers.

So, I was listening to these songs, and occurred to me to wonder what they might do if filtered through Doug's meta-talent.
The Moon Rises

Quote:Now the hour has come at last

The soft and fading light

Has crossed the west horizon

And has bidden us goodnight

And what a lovely night it is

To walk a moonlit field

To see the softer shades

That are by starlight now revealed

So why is it that now,

When all is quiet and at rest

When candles glow and all the world

Is at its very best

The ponies of Equestria

Should lock themselves away

To shun the moon and wait instead

For Sister's sunny day?

In umbra Luna est (the moon is in shadow)

Am I so wrong to wish that they

Would see things like I do?

And am I so wrong to think

That they might love me too?

Why shouldn't they adore me?

Is it not within my right?

I'll not be overshadowed!

Mine is not the lesser light!

I've waited long enough now

For them all to come around

And though the Sun may plead and threaten,

The Moon will stand her ground

And all will know the wonder

Of my dark and jeweled sky

When all the world is wrapped

In an eternal lullaby

So say goodnight at this,

The final setting of the sun

Tomorrow dawns in darkness

The nighttime has begun!

Nocte! (night!)
The power for this seems rather straightforward to me:  It holds back the dawn, if played just before.  If played while the sun is in the sky, it causes a total solar eclipse, and if played at night, it greatly enhances the natural beauty of the night.
Lullaby for a Princess
Quote:Fate has been cruel and order unkind

How can I have sent you away?

The blame was my own; the punishment, yours

The harmony's silent today

But into the stillness I'll bring you a song

And I will your company keep

Till your tired eyes and my lullabies

Have carried you softly to sleep

Once did a pony who shone like the sun

Look out on her kingdom and sigh

She smiled and said, "Surely, there is no pony

So lovely and so well beloved as I"

So great was her reign and so brilliant her glory

That long was the shadow she cast

Which fell dark upon the young sister she loved

And grew only darker as days and nights passed

Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine

And rest now in moonlight's embrace

Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth

Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night

And carry my sorrow in kind

Luna, you're loved so much more than you know

Forgive me for being so blind

Soon did that pony take notice that others

Did not give her sister her due

And neither had she loved her as she deserved

She watched as her sister's unhappiness grew

But such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly

Takes hold of the mind of its host

And that foolish pony did nothing to stop

The destruction of one who had needed her most

Lullay moon princess, goodnight sister mine

And rest now in moonlight's embrace

Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth

Through cloud, and through sky, and through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night

And carry my sorrow in kind

Luna, you're loved so much more than you know

May troubles be far from your mind

And forgive me for being so blind

The years now before us

Fearful and unknown

I never imagined

I'd face them on my own

May these thousand winters

Swiftly pass, I pray

I love you; I miss you

All these miles away

May all your dreams be sweet tonight

Safe upon your bed of moonlight

And know not of sadness, pain, or care

And when I dream, I'll fly away and meet you there

  The Moon
Posted by: Last Free Human - 08-03-2013, 06:38 AM - Forum: IST/Supers - Replies (16)

So we made it to the Moon in the IST world, but aside from a brief mention of this in the timeline and the appearance of a spaceworthy super and the fact that the USA and USSR both have space programs that seem comparable to a slightly more advanced version of ours, there appears to be no mention of the Apollo program or any successors to it.
Did the IST world go to the moon and stay? Did things play out close to how it did in ours? Is their a Clavius base somewhere up there?

Any thoughts?
