[link]This thread[/url] got me wondering about the big musical acts in Fenspace. I wasn't able to find very many... Sorted by debut date: - The http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... _Cavaliers]Hong Kong Cavaliers: Debuted in 2011, IIRC, but didn't take their current name until December 2013. Primarily "classic rock," with forays into practically every other style.
- http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... S238_Brass]Junior Fabulous and the PS238 Brass: Not sure when they debuted, but before the end of the Boskone War. Jazz and big-band, when they're not the "horns section" for the Hong Kong Cavaliers.
- Bombastic Hush: Debuted June 2013. A French-influenced electropop trio. Renée Taliaferro fronts and plays guitar; two more band members TBD.
- Sunshine Galaxy: Possibly debuted at Serenity-Con - the backstory is still in flux as of this posting. Pop with occasional forays into harder rock, metal or power ballads (and the occasional mambo or dance track voice over rap). Fronted by singer Hoshikage Kouyou, backed by session musicians.
- The Red Lad Revue: Debuted February 2018. Primarily "show tunes." Fronted by Kohran Li, with Makoto Miyadera and five more core members TBD.
That's not enough to keep that lovely stadium on Deimos busy... Who else can we add to the list of known Musician's Aid Society members and hangers-on?

[RFC] Standard biomods list? |

I think what I was getting at in (possibly unwisely) raising the question of MLP-related biomods was whether there might reasonably be some sort of 'standard' list of biomods? Existing wiki entry:
http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?title=Biomod
Obviously, every biomod has at least the potential to be be different, but the basic idea of biomods is one of the signature traits of Fenspace, and there are some common patterns. Then there are things which look like biomods, but aren't, biomods which are mixed-in with something else, and biomods which are so extreme that the person isn't biological anymore, or even becomes living handwavium.
It might be worth mentioning people going the other way, and becoming either more biological, or becoming legal persons when they weren't before. Then biomods of things which are neither persons before nor after, like animals or plants.
Seeing as Fenspace isn't a dystopian setting, saying something about what are the limits on a 'Joker' (a biomod that is (almost) all quirks), or even a 'Black Queen' (death or its equivalent) might be worthwhile. Also making it clear whether this is a limit on what handwavium will do, what stories it is desirable to tell in the Fenspace setting, or both. I think the terminology is inspired by the 'Wild Cards' braided novel/collective writing setting:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Cards
(apologies if this is mentioned somewhere obvious, but I've managed to miss it).
Each faction can have its own standard biomods (the Trekkie aliens are probably a good example), but some biomods cut across factions or might even become the origin of a faction. It would probably be worth a least noting imperceptible or unnoticed biomods, that might be the result of accident or medical intervention. Some theories to the logic behind biomod results would obviously be worth linking from here.
Then there's things like the legal status of biomods in various places on Earth, and when that changes in the timeline, whether or not involuntary biomodding might be used anywhere in Fenspace except as a final emergency medical treatment, possibly as a 'final chance' alternative to execution, and links to faction rituals to do with biomodding. And, whether any of that is considered too dystopian for the Fenspace setting.
Making sure that it's clear: some of the information is common knowledge in Fenspace, some is only known to small groups of people, and some is 'meta' and is there for use by writers. Also when in the timeline various things become known.
So, is this worth doing? Or, is there enough about biomods in other places in the wiki?
Or, none of the above? [grin]

How curious is Doug? |

This crossed my mind: suppose the Loon wound up in a world where something struck him as mysterious, but not necessarily needing action taken. He looked into it further, and was beginning to unravel the mystery. He'd got to a point where he was fairly sure that another three weeks to two months at the outside would reveal "all" to him.
And then he found the Gatesong out.
Is his curiosity strong enough to make him stick around anyway, perhaps as much as two months (with the possibility that he was wrong and it'd take longer), to find out what's going on, even when he's not at all sure it's anything he could or should do anything about?
The origin of this was an idle musing about a story in which some time or crosstime traveler apparently tampered with world history from a certain point, and may still be doing so ... but from what Doug can see, the changes seem to be mostly improvements. Maybe.
I kind of liked the idea of a situation in which Looney and the other traveler wind up helping each other in some way, or both taking on a danger/problem, but without ever meeting or either of them being certain the other even existed.

META: FTL fast transit of Fenspace |

How well known/how well used is the FTL "fast transit" method of getting around the Outer Solar System?
This is based on the idea of heading straight out to the Limit (about 40AU from Sol), moving around the Solar System while outside the Limit at FTL speeds (500c), then diving back through the Limit when you are at the closest distance between the Limit and your destination. Instead of flying straight-line (maybe dodging Sol) all within the Limit. For extra fun you go straight up (or down) from the plane of the ecliptic, to avoid anything else that might be in the way.
This is analogous to going sub-orbital on Earth, using a speed drive which can do 250mph in atmosphere - instead of flying there the hard way you just go 50mls straight up, fly at space speeds sub-orbital to your destination, then 50mls straight down - probably a leisurely hour to get anywhere on the planet. (And two hour in customs at each end. [grin])

"My Little Pony" biomod |

Some of the MLP Fen seem to be really, really, fanatical...
What would happen if a group of them got together and tried to biomod themselves each into their favourite Pony?
Is this the sort of thing that would happen in Fenspace in keeping with it being a positive non-noir setting?

Despite what part of me is saying, despite the little voice in the back of my head that is saying there are plans in works and what not... I intend to grab at the very least .costume files for my characters and/or decent pictures of their current costumes.
Looks at list of alts... yes this will take a while, but I'm grabbing *something*, just in case. I've had too many regrets lately.
How high-res of a pic do you need to see if you can port the outfit elsewhere?

I am all of a sudden consumed with the urge to just straight out TALK to people, rather than type. I'm good at typing, and most of the time, I serves.
But... I've been pretty emotional all day, and my typing starts going to the dogs when that happens. You don't see it, because I always back up and try to correct where I can. But I get SLOWER.
I recently got a headset with a good mic. Is there any ventrillo or teamspeak server you guys use?
And further - someday I'd like to MEET you all in person. I don't know when or where that could happen. But I suddenly feel the urge like never before.
Is that weird?
