I also like the fact that Naruto's actions have had a major effect on his teammates. Sakura's stealth skills are at the point where she can hide from
chunin and jounin while Sasuke knows his teammates well enough that he chooses to cheat off of Sakura during the exam because he knows that she'll have the
correct answers.

I dont think its that bad, even if it doesnt mesh with its portrayal in cannon its consistent with mythology.
The terms of the deal dont preclude it being a major source of conflict/drama in future parts of the story either.

I think your missing the reason the 9 tails jumped on that condition of Naruto's... simplely put... It pimps slaps the Sharingans mind control Biju powers
in the face. Virtually everything the Sharigan users will tell the Kyubbi to do is going to be ignorable via preexisting contracts. Between that and the
exotic foods on request thing, Naruto is giving the Kyubbi the bestest dowry EVER.

previous chapter (damn my imagination for being better than reality), it wasn't too out there. Note that in this AU, Naruto has been acting much
differently towards the Kyuubi since he first learned of it. Different input = different output.
