Okay, from now on my paranoia around ATM machines is going to focus primarily on finding the skimmer instead of watching for muggers (though I'll still keep an eye out for the latter - the former just seems more likely these days).

one of the few (very few) good things about Bank of America atms is that they have a very flush layout. So anything tacked onto the surface stands out like a sore thumb.

Same with Citizens Bank, but I'm definitely going to be more paranoid from now on. It's a good thing I don't use them that often.

CIBC installed guards on all their ATMs to protect against this, thank God.
To be honest, I'm more worried about being skimmed by some hacked retail reader.

.... All ATM machines are subject to inspection in my book. Especially when in a country like Russia. Boy, you talk about paranoia....

The reason I'm more worried about store debit/credit machines is that I don't use cash very often. In fact, I've gone as much as a month at a time without using anything but Debit and Credit.

I'm not too concerned -- any time I have problems with fraud, it's someone trying to use my card number to charge something. Like this weekend -- the bank spotted several fraudulent charges and suspended my card. I'm gettting a new card expressed to me tomorrow.
