True. But he still wasn't repentant -- remember the Nixon Doctrine, as he explained it in his 1977 interview with David Frost: "When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal." He had no problem accepting responsibility for his actions because he did not think he had ever done anything wrong. At the time it was considered shocking and evidence of his arrogance and basic criminality. Today? Judging by Trump's enablers in and out of Congress, it's a fundamental plank of Republican policy with the word "Republican" inserted strategically.
