Yeah, because (as The Huffington Post points out), the last War on Drugs worked so well... <sigh>

Hey, the War on Drugs worked perfectly. It just wasn't meant to remove drugs as a factor.

It was a Republican policy that between uneven enforcement and felony disenfranchisement laws got a lot more Democratic Party supporters off the voting rolls than it hit Republicans.

Admittedly, this is rather a cynical reading of the situation, it's quite possible it was supposed to help deal with the drug problem the US faced at the time. That doesn't mean the Republicans didn't make use of the policies and public opinion it created.
