House Republicans introduce legislation for outright ban on municipal broadband in US
House Republicans introduce legislation for outright ban on municipal broadband in US

Never let it be said that the GOP doesn't have a sense of humour - their bill that if passed would force people in 28 states to disconnect is called the CONNECT Act.

Never let it be said that the GOP understand economics, either - their bill is intended to increase competition but targets areas where the private sector does not want to compete.

Story here.

“Increase competition” for the GOP generally means: “ the government is showing that it can help people and we don’t like it. Also it’s beneficial to non-whites. Better nip that in the bud.”
"This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic, have fallen with a dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi. Trust in The Force. Do not return to the Temple... that time has past. And our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged. Our trust. Our faith. Our friendships. But we must persevere. And in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always."

Yeah, this comes off pretty asinine. I live in the country, where getting decent internet is a pain without paying a king's ransom, so more options are always good.
