While this is completely plausible and wouldn't surprise me at all, The Beaverton is Canada's version of The Onion.

The Quebec question will be sitting quietly for a while...
No referendum with Trump around, says PQ ahead of October election
Quote:The Parti Québécois will not hold a referendum as long as U.S. President Donald Trump remains in power, party leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon announced Tuesday morning.
In a post on X, he said he wants to avoid having the issue "hijacked by the ups and downs of American politics."
"An issue as crucial as the political future of Quebec requires conditions that allow for an informed and calm debate," St-Pierre Plamondon wrote.
He said the next government will be faced with "more than enough challenges" without calling a referendum.

Chapman’s Ice Cream pledges no price increase as Ontario company shifts away from U.S. suppliers
Quote:An Ontario ice cream company says it will replace more than 70 per cent of its American ingredients and won't increase prices for two years.
Chapman’s Ice Cream is shifting away from American suppliers as the trade dispute between Canada and the United States continues. The family-owned company also says it won't raise prices for its ice cream until March 2028.
Bringing some stability to the supply lines (in that there's no worries about arbitrary tariffs) is good, but not the only reason to do this.
Quote:He said some of the changes have also proved to be more affordable than expected.
“It’s crazy what this has done for businesses in this country. Almonds from Australia, are you crazy? How is that possible that we could get an even better price, plus freight, from Australia instead of the United States? So we’re finding a lot of opportunities out there.”

Why isn't Canada blocking the Welland Canal? Other trade war questions answered
Also asked: - Why doesn't Canada put export duties on energy as the cost is borne by Americans not Canadians?
- Why not ban sales of certain goods in Canada?

While the folks in the Oval Playpen move to transactional deals, Canada makes a long-term agreement with an ally who isn't (yet) in NATO.
Canada, Ukraine forge 100-year pact built on drones and defence
Yes, a full century. When we say that we stand with our allies, we mean it.
