According to this article on Anime News Network, the not-so-little red-headed girl is named "Shikinami Asuka Langley" in Eva 2.0.
There's also a new character named after a pair of WWII ships: Makinami Mari Illustrious. Mari is to be played by Maaya Sakamoto, which makes one wonder whether Yoko Kanno is writing something for her to sing in the new Eva. (Sakamoto-san did sing a theme that Kanno-san didn't write for Risky Safety, but that was the exception that proves the rule.)
