Harry finally opens up to Lyra, in clear, certain terms what he has suffered at the Dursleys, allowing Lyra and Madame Bones to properly launch their investigation and begin the process of permanently separating him from his relatives - beginning with granting Lyra herself emergency custody of him until the investigation is finished. But just because progress is being made doesn't mean things are simple, and Harry and Lyra both are thrust into a position of turbulent, sensitive emotions. And when the heightened emotions of two traumatized individuals boil over to the surface, it puts the burgeoning bond between Harry and Lyra to the test...

(HP/His Dark Materials)

A month passes. Lyra is still feeling guilty and conflicted over her feelings, she still feels lost and adrift at sea, but she keeps trying - and despite her efforts to keep herself distant, she can't help but continue to inch closer and closer to loving Harry to the point of no return. And it isn't just Harry causing her to put emotional roots down in this world - now that she's over at the flat constantly, Lyra finds herself bonding with Hermione Granger nearly as strongly in a different way. She finds a mentor in Kingsley Shacklebolt and *might* be getting more attached to Auror Trainee Tonks than she's willing to admit to herself.

And when she and Hermione celebrate Harry's birthday with him, it ends up being Hermione Granger that finally starts crumbling Lyra's resistance to attachment - causing her to, for the first time in years, bring back a little of that truly rebellious fire that used to run like wildfire in her heart. Sure, the *rules* might say that people can't stay in another world for more than a few years without starting to deteriorate - but since when has Lyra Silvertongue *ever* been one to follow the rules?

Harry Potter and the Silvertongue's Aid (HP/HDM) Chapter 8.

Harry goes to the Quidditch World Cup with Lyra and Hermione, Lyra having gotten him tickets for his birthday, and the three of them bond even more - Harry finally gets to meet Tonks outside of the DMLE and watches how Lyra acts with her, and he grows even closer with Hermione as the two of them take a big step forward in their friendship. But after the World Cup game is played, Harry gets a glimpse of the darker, angrier side of Lyra - just for a moment - when the Death Eaters attack and it rattles something in him and their relationship. They manage to barely patch it up at the eleventh hour for a bittersweet, emotional 'see you soon' at Platform 9-and-three-quarters, and Lyra leaves him with some parting wisdom - reminding him how she got her name, and that sometimes violence isn't necessary to escape a tight situation.

Harry Potter and the Silvertongue's Aid, Chapter 9
(HP/HDM)

It's been a little over two weeks since Harry left on the train, and Lyra has been spiraling a little. She's not changing her mind, she's basically already decided she's here to stay, but she's absolutely petrified of her own failure and without Harry and Hermione around her flat is empty except for Pan's company and her mind has been left spinning. Thankfully she's got a really, really lovely friend in Nymphadora Tonks who can tell something is wrong and tries to drag it out of her, but Tonks ends up dragging out a lot, lot more than that out of Lyra, which leads to Lyra taking the first *real* plunge into committing herself to this world...for better, or for worse.

as of this chapter i have changed the fic rating to M
while this chapter does not contain any explicit content it does contain enough discussions and allusions to adult themes that the rating change felt appropriate

Harry's POV and his side of the story will remain in T-rated territory for the most part
However, writing this chapter showed me that to properly tell Lyra's story (my version of Lyra anyway) the fic as a whole should be bumped up to M.
