I can't help but feel that the jet armor and Umbria are a bit too much, too fast.
As far as I can remember, the barrier jackets and armor shown in the series don't have anywhere near that sort of effect. Near the start of the StrikerS manga, Nanoha explains that both barrier jackets and Rein's knight armor are combinations of barrier and field defensive magic. (link) Perhaps you could change it so the device was forcibly activating and controlling some sort of incomplete flight system that is part of his enhancements as a cyborg, and make the armor's appearance just a personal preference?
The too much, too fast feeling really hits me with Umbra though. As far as I am aware, unison devices cannot normally upload or download information from or to the minds of their users. The original Reinforce was an exception to this, as that was the original purpose of the Book of the Night Sky, but since we are shown Reinforce Zwei taking notes as Nanoha explains the basics of field defenses, it seems likely that Rein lost that ability. Also, according to the Nanoha wiki (which is drawing on liner notes that were only released in Japan, mutter mutter), people capable of using unison devices are rare, and use of improperly calibrated unison devices can be dangerous.
If you don't mind my asking, what kind of enemies is Matt going to be facing that he needs this much power, right off the bat?
