Hmmm.... Maybe, but that would just be going beyond, "Okay, he snapped and killed his daughter and son-in-law... Okay, let's not be too drastic about this..." and straight into, "Okay, he snapped and thinks he's Jigsaw now. Who's the best with a hunting rifle here?"
And that's probably what would have happened. In one case you have the Old Man going off the deep end so quickly that there's barely anytime to do more than save the kid. In the other... there probably would have been enough time for the Lighthorsemen to confront him... with rifles.
ETA: It occurs to me, suddenly, that Quick Stone should have his own following among the Tribe. Pretty sure that this should be his personal guard/servitors/mooks. And that would make things just that much more difficult for Zeke because these would be people he knows. (Of course, the whole 'know your enemy' thing won't be an issue.)
