I got a hold of the original version of Nowlans two stories in 1978 or 1979 just about the time I became a teenager. Then later as a college student in the mid
1980's I found the four based on the Niven and Pournelle outline in a used book store.
I remember liking the stories, but thought the change in righting style was to jarring and disjointed to be a true following of the Nowlans stories.
I never considered them to be true sequels to Nowlans work, just good books from a parallel universe that was close to the universe Nowlan had written about..
That view is almost certainly my own fault, to celebrate finding the 4 books in a used book store I dug out my book with Nowlans two original stories and a set
of notes with my ideas for continuing Rogers adventures. I reread those notes and the book then immediately started on the 4 books and was very disappointed,
I liked my ideas better.
As far as the Han being Alien hybrids that didn't bother me, but I had at least one idea that used that concept.
