He did not just toss in a throwaway reference to M. McGregor's "I Am What I Am" to confuse the plotline any further. He did not.

Unless I'm confusing the reference (and that's entirely possible), I didn't see it as such. The 'via train station' bit threw me off. I thought it was a throwaway ref to something else I haven't read.

But then again, maybe I need to go back and re-read IAWIA.
