[tech] How does one clone a notebook HDD?

I've actually had it work with a straight 'dd if=dev/sda of=/dev/sdb' in the past, with no switches at all. But a good combination of switches can help.

But for those who don't want to mess with Linux command-line stuff, CloneZilla is free and pretty much makes the whole process menu-driven and painless. I switched from Norton Ghost (used to LOVE that program!) to CZ after NG went non-bootable back around the intro of NTFS. Never looked back.
