Acyl,
Technically, she has, IIRC, put in a title or two in earlier works. I hesitate to call that an entirely new phenomenom. However, Embers is something like thirty percent of the writing she has put on the internet under that name, and has been published, so far, for over two years, when her usual m.o. is to publish the whole story at once. (I can't be more precise than that, because my hand parsed spreadsheet is on a HDD I don't have access to right now. I suppose there is also a chance of her publishing stuff under that name in places other than FFN and fictionpress.) I think we can agree that it is very different from the rest of her known works, even if we have trouble agreeing on the metrics.
I do the whole latch onto a point of disagreement, and hammer away thing also. I also do it for apparent slight differences in perception. You may have noticed both of these.
To trim things down, I think there are two core issues. One is that the abnormalities of Embers' writing and final publication may have hampered her ability to edit the thing to match a specified expected audiance background. This is a matter of specification and plans changing as they are implemented. The other is that the prolonged writing period is also a prolonged learning period for her. Changes in one's own knowledge can be confusing when trying to keep track of what one has already explained, and of what one is expecting the reader to know. This is a matter of book keeping. Some of the Author's Notes, including many without links and book-lists, can be understood as attempts to correct these issues without drastic changes to the core text itself.
Having read the chapter, I think it was a shame it was so short, and I think things are more screwed up than I thought. I'm half wondering if this is going to be enough to knock me out of the story.
