US uranium mining happens in Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, and Texas, according to a quick search, all places famous for having lots and lots of elbow room. With the existing reactors aging toward retirement or heavy required refits and the not-impossibly-blue-sky prospect of those superconducting grid trunks putting a bunch o fgeneration capacity out thataway would make quite a bit of sense... permitting and politics are the biggest hurdles no matter where you look, though.
