Yeah, I suspect that's a big part of why records sound much better to people - it isn't a matter of warmth or anything, it's that it's a lot harder to push the format in a really bad direction without the quality suffering badly. And a lot of newer releases have been relearning the lesson that volume just isn't king when it comes to anything, one of the places that records just can't be pushed.
