We begin in the Chief's Hut on Berk, where Astrid finally realizes just how far off his game Hiccup is, and Wulfhild helps her do something about it. Over in the Rookery, Eret continues to be struck by the change from dragon trapper to Dragon Tender, and meets two visiting young ladies and their dragons. In his offices in Inbhir Niss, Mac Bethad considers how lucky he's been so far, and how lucky he needs to keep being. Elsewhere in the Alban capitol, Fraser delivers Mildew's letter. Back in the Chief's Hut, Stoick and Hiccup talk over the results of the Bogs' Thing. In Vedrarfjord, now he's up and about again, Fintan walks around the city and gets reacquainted with daily life. In the Chief's Hut again, Esther is present for Stoick's discussion with Bladewit, including a wrinkle from the Bogs' decision which could ease matters for her and the rest of Berk's Jewish population. Finally, from Stoick wishing his granddaughters could meet the older one's namesake, we jump to Good-Cold's nest, where Valka (the elder) thinks about what she's done for her flyers, and tries to imagine what the walkers of Berk have become since Cloudjumper carried her off...

Militarily useful primarily in naval defense, as their speed is too slow to keep pace with a modern fleet, but are extremely useful for securing harbors and amphibious landing zones when called for.

Identification: Medium to Gargantuan size. White, gray or black scales and hide, studded with large blunt spines along the back, neck, and tail, holding up a vestigial pair of wings along the lateral sides of the thorax. Four pillar-like legs. Two large tusks jut forward from the temples, aiding in water streamlining during swimming. Long tail with wide fin at terminal end, supported by more spikes. Overall teardrop body profile.
Strategic Role: Naval auxiliaries, submersible ship protection, mine-sweeping, submarine hunters, logistical support, construction support, amphibious assault support.
Known Weaknesses: Slow speed, semi-obligate aquatic, with larger individuals able to spend increasingly less time out of water without risk of harm. Modern mines and torpedoes can easily penetrate their hide in the absence of armor or countermeasures. Needs to breathe.
