They require all involved parties to act reasonably and with awareness of the surrounding traffic as well as where they want to go, which is typically two things too many to really trust any random stranger behind a wheel with at the same time. Drogn, I wouldn't trust US drivers with stoplights and marked lanes for turns or proceeding straight across at any time either. When properly marked roadways still result in cars parking through front windows often enough it's not worth reporting on in local news, you've got a problem.
