My first thought: give that guy a medal. But Samuel Upham made quite a business printing fake notes. There was a notice that it was a facsimile at the bottom, where you could cut it off the bill. They were 1-3% of the Confederate money supply. At first the Union worried that the Confederates would use the same tactic against them, so they didn't want him to print money. Eventually the Secretary of War intervened on Upham's behalf and got the case against him dismissed.
