Let's be honest here, what Clegg was saying is that under that specific law an AI company would have to individually negotiate the usage of every single piece of text in the internet with whoever its copyright holder happens to be, which IS clearly unworkable for any industry. He was instead pushing for a creator-side authorization mark that AI companies would be legally compelled to respect, unlike the current honor-based robots.txt system.



This has explicitly been their game plan for the last fifty years: run up the deficit (by cutting taxes) when they are in power and holler about the deficit having to be reduced (by cutting services) when they aren't. Look up "The Two Santas Strategy".
