San Francisco 2161 (ST worldbuilding exercise) Prologue: Before.

For forty-seven days in the summer of 2161 C.E., the city of San Francisco on Earth in the Sol system was the center around which the galaxy figuratively spun. Thousands had arrived to the foggy city on the bay to attend the San Francisco Conference scheduled to begin on June 26th of that year.[fn1] For each delegation, there came an agenda, or agendas, either personal or mission-driven, from their world or governments of origin. Across local space, many planets still burned with the recent scars of the Coalition-Romulan War.[fn2]

Several referenced works refer to this conflict as “The Earth-Romulan War”, “Earther-Romulan War” and “War of the Romulans”. When used in quotation, these original distinctions have been retained.

(Personally, I'd describe McKenzie as "Classical", given that his career lay only a generation earlier than the Diamond-Yauch-Horowitz team.)
