Matbe I'm too genrous in that, but he did put effort into separating his personal disgrace from the position of President to preserve the dignity of the office, while Trump is indignity personified.

No, you've hit the nail exactly on the head.  Dick Nixon could feel shame, and feel it deeply.  Our current President can't feel shame.  Like, I think he's not mentally capable of feeling shame, and never has been.
