Dipping a toe into the world of Hi-Fi

A new addition to the HiFi.


Reloop 7000MKII - a clone of the SL1200MKII - originally aimed at DJ's. Direct drive with reverse and multiple speed and pitch options. Really, it's just a nice tactile thing with buttons to touch and fiddle with, and blinkenlights. It doesn't make any motor noise while running - unlike the RP-1 I used to have - and runs at absolute speed.

Can also throttle the pitch to make songs sound that little bit different. Konya Wa Hurricane gets an injection of energy just by pitching it up a key.

As for the RP-1 it replaced - I traded it for the record I'm playing. And got the good side of the deal. The Berserk Delux soundtrack normally sells for hundreds on ebay and the like. Provided it's sealed, of course.

This particular copy has been devalued catastrophically by the act of enjoying it.

Bought a DJ cartridge with it - which had a higher output to improve signal-to-noise ratio. The output was so high it actually overloaded the pre-amp and caused it to hard-clip. On quieter tracks it sounded fine - but when things got loud everything went to shit. Ended up having to take the old low-output cartridge off the RP-1 just to get it working right. It's fine - but the alingment's off a little since I did it by eye. Quick swap headshells are a lifesaver - but I do need to either find a lower output cartridge, or a lower output pre-amp to keep things from clipping.

Otherwise, it's a better piece of equipment that the 'Audiophile' equipment in the same price-bracket - it doesn't have the *phile tax for a start - and there's a wide community of people out there who rely on these to work in order to get their dinner. And who can't pay hundreds to fix the thing either. They're also cold, sterile things to match the modern cold, sterile aesthetic. This has lights and buttons
