Be advised that Apple folded on Lake America, at least when viewing from the United States of America.
Going to second using something based on OpenStreetMap. The foundation that manages the project is based out of Britain, and even uses British spelling conventions for most tags. You probably don’t want to use the official website, unless you are editing, as it is just a front end for a dataset with example renderers and routing engines. You might consider using OSMApp on the web, which is open source led by a Czech developer, and uses the Swiss based company Maptiler as a partner. On mobile I am partial to Osmand, an open source app built by a Dutch company. There are also OrganicMaps/CoMaps, which is a fork of a Russian mapping app. OrganicMaps is based out of Estonia. I am less familiar with CoMaps, but it is associated with British and German entities mainly it seems.
If you are interested in porting deployments that use a Slippy map, be advised that the company Mapbox is based out of the US, and Mapillary is a subsidiary of Meta, through their offices are based in Sweden. Mapillary has an alternative in Mapzen, which was absorbed by the Linux Foundation (US Based, might be a dealbreaker), or one of many map tiler or vector services. As an alternative to Mapillary, you might try KartaView which is owned by Grab of Singapore.
If you are interested in editing, I would check out the Canada Mapping Project on the OpenStreetMap Wiki, as well as Canadian Tagging Guidelines, as well as the project page for Ottawa. If you want something easy to use, I recommend StreetComplete, an open source mobile app with a German developer.
