But this all makes sense if you think of the Galaxy Police in Tenchi Muyo as an actual organization committed to upholding the law in the greater galaxy, and not just a collection of straight-men who only seem to exist so that a punchline can be pinned on them.  Otherwise, if Mihoshi had always been like that?  Then she would never have made the cut to become a detective.

Nepotism.  The Tenchiverse is rife with nepotism.  This is kind of a weird argument when you look at present day where "Keystone Kash" Patel is the Director of the FBI.  It's pretty obvious that competence didn't get him that job, and continuous inadvertent comedy hasn't been a deal-breaker so far.  I can only imagine how the requirements for being a detective are, well, actually higher than for chief of US law enforcement, but honestly not by very much.

Instead, Brent much prefers the idea that Mihoshi is just an adorable airhead who is incredibly clumsy and somehow has the luck of the heavens on her side.  It's a much more simple, cut-and-dry archetype that is an easy source of comedy.

In fact, from what I've pieced together, he seems to like most of his characters to be simple as he grew up on Carl Barks's Disney comics.  With certain exceptions, of course - those being the Hero-That-Saves-The-Universe archetypes like Utena Tenjou and Tsukino Usagi.

You sure have a lot to say about what others think.  I honestly don't know what the point of that part of the discussion is.

But you know, Donald Duck gets so many votes from Europeans for a reason.  He's doing his best as a single parent, raising his sister's clutch.  He's adventurous, but lazy; moral but falls to get rich quick schemes.  He's corrupted by the Golden Helmet, but eventually rejects it. Being the everyman is harder than it seems, and he gets unnecessarily angry.  Also, every day is No Pants Day.

And Scrooge, well, he's a rich man with a moral code.  Crazy, right?  And yet he's still haunted by the one deal where he took advantage of poor Africans -- literally haunted by the body of Bombie the Zombie.  Scrooge still holds a candle for a woman he loved fifty years back, and she loves him too, but both are too proud to admit it.  He's a skinflint who takes advantage of his family -- yet his family is the only reason he's still so alive and adventurous in his advanced age.  His Money Bin isn't for show, and it's certainly not for status -- it's where he keeps coins that have sentimental value to him (all three cubic acres of it).  And, like, compare him to real world people like Zuckerberg or Larry Ellison or Sam Altman, and honestly Scrooge McDuck makes those guys look two-dimensional in comparison.

Also, Utena doesn't save the universe.  She saves one girl.  Just one.  At great personal cost.  And she is promptly forgotten by nearly everyone.  It's as if she barely existed.  The end.  This is enough.
