Escaflowne would be a good step. Maybe Doug can do something about the ending. Seriously, I really dug that show, up until the last two episodes, where the writers evidently felt that they had to jam about five episodes worth of plot into two.
I actually see Doug adapting quite well to the world of Escaflowne, at least initially. He's already done fantasy, in the first step, so falling back to that shouldn't be difficult.
