There's "medical aid" and there's "torture and medical experimentation." Medical aid does not generally include dosing someone with an unpredictable substance in what is clearly (by the journal entry) an act of punishment for escaping.
EDIT: Understand that I'm not saying that you should change your character. That's your character; you're in charge of writing what you want to write. Just be prepared for the consequences of your characters' actions. Ebony the Black Dragon
