I would conjecture he's trying to find out if he can copy his skills and knowledge into somebody, and cause them to believe they're him as a form of
immortality and using famous people as test cases along with the unwilling test subjects. Or at least create a duplicate of him so when Dr. Grey dies, it's
actually some guy who he brainwashed into believing he's Dr. Grey.
