Just to clear this one up, the boat being nicked in this particular story is the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier that was converted into a museum in New York Harbor. The museum has multiple aircraft exhibits, including, yes indeed, a SR-71 Blackbird up on the main deck.
So that's not like totally illogical. The rest of your objections are good & kosher, though.
