It looks like a variant of what's been going on with outbound links on LiveJournal. Only there, one couldn't tab-open links in Firefox with things like noScript installed. They're basically adding 'referral' code for things like affiliate programs, but the links add-ons are hosing up attempts to open in new tabs.
I don't see them, because I've got all that stuff blocked off in my Firefox install.
