Exactly this. The internet does what no technological advance prior has managed - changing the entire way content can be delivered, for the internet was conceived as a method to deliver information, which is all entertainment content is. It literally threatens their business model down to its foundations, and is competition on top of it.
Anything else they've fought against have always enabled home creators to distribute on a local level for less, if only because it enabled the duplication on an as-needed basis (audio cassettes, VCR, CD burners). And those they were able to get levies put on so you always had to give them something for your production, and even then, you were still limited to local sales for the most part. With the internet, one can be completely independent of Big Media in what they do, and yet have international reach, and no limits to the number of sales one can make outside of site bandwidth costs.
Piracy is merely the "legitimate issue strawman". Yes, piracy is a problem, but it's not the only reason they want the legislation. It's merely the convenient reason.
