Well, there's nothing saying that Onyx has to be correct in her interpretation of events. Rhea knew there were other dimensions before she gained her
powers, but probably wasn't aware of time travel.
So Onyx splits off from Emerald/Rhea and gets slingshotted into the future. There's another version of her running around with a well established history.
So she might assume that she's in another reality.
