I'll ask the same question I always have when I see this line of
argument: Why do you assume that half the real combat troops aren't
going to be supporting the insurrection?

I don't, of course! Quite possibly there'll be a significant fraction of the military supporting it - although, if we're discussing a case like, say, South Korea a few decades ago, that might be a small fraction - but if those soldiers have their own guns, then they'll be using them, rather than drawing 'arms' from the civilian population, won't they? I'm not arguing that 'second amendment rights' are a major factor in civil liberty, but the opposite - that they're irrelevant to the course of events.
