Garrick, unlike Misa, will manage to come away with footage courtesy of his iPhone and C-pod. And he'll be handing that over to his girlfriend's dad in order to spread the word and start a grassroots effort to build more shelters and preserve Earth's ecology and culture.
And it will be on Global's say-so, too. Once he sees the footage himself and then the NUGits stick their heads in the sand, hell know that they need to go behind their backs.
As for Garrick taking Kaifun's place... Well, he still wont be able to summon up his lighthawk wing at will, even after he leaves Macross. It's one of those things that just isn't as easy as it looks. So no 'I do all my own special affects' here.
However, the wuxia film is gonna take on a slightly different flavor with Garrick in the main role. After all, if the main character is gonna an American, then it will certainly have to be different for him to fit the role. :p
