		Looney Quotes

		01-04-2010, 10:17 PM

There's http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?p=908289]a fluff thread over on the SJ Games Forums that started off with the Cartoon Network marathon of Looney Tunes on New Year's. The question posed was "what one scene from those cartoons really sticks in your mind?"

A few folks described scenes, but I think the best replies are the ones that quoted one or two lines instead. How many do you recognize?

"Ho, ha-ha! Guard, turn, parry, dodge, spin, ha, thrust!"

"And now, having re-re-disposed of the monster, exit our hero stage left."

"Sorry, folks, we ran outta gas."
"Yeah, you know how it is with these 'A' cards."

"Would I turn on the gas if my friend Rocky were in there?"
"You might, rabbit, you might."
"Well, would I drop a lighted match in this oven if my friend Rocky were in there?"

"Well, I talk LOUD! And I carry a BIGGER stick! And I use it, too!"

**thub-thub-thub**
"MEEP-MEEP!!"
**pyown-WHOOOSHH**
(somewhat generic, but what can you do?)
"Who? Franz Liszt? Never heard of him. Wrong number."

Sign: "OK Wiseguys. NOW what do I do?"

"This is gonna cause more confusion than a mouse in a burlesque show!"

"Say, boy, you cover about as much as a flapper skirt in a high wind."

"Oh, I'm going to blow it up, it obstructs my view of Venus."

"I am ze locksmith of love, no?"

"Turn out zee lights, darling. I know where everything is."

"Pardon me, but could you out help a fellow American who's down on his luck?"
"Hit the road!"

"Why, it's Mugsy! Don't look at me like that, Mugsy! I'm your pal, Mugsy, your buddy pal! Yeah!"
"It's coitains for ya, Rocky! Coitains!"

"I'm rich! I'm socially secure!"

"Yes, you're next! You're so next!"

"Poor liddle bunny... I killed the wabbit..."

"Pronoun trouble."
(This one was my contribution, and I still can't believe it's so far down in the thread.)
"I wonder if that silly duck will remember he can fly." WHAM!!! "Nope, guess not."

I got them all except the sound effect and Franz Liszt. I am disappointed in myself.

ETA: I mean, it's obviously a Roadrunner sound effect, but I can't figure out what particular incident it is.

The sound effect is ANY Roadrunner Zoom.

The "Franz Liszt" riff is from the cartoon where Bugs is a Concert Pianist playing Liszt's Second Hungarian Rhapsody. He's playing right along before the mouse starts getting lippy, and gets a phone call... cue the quote.
''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat
them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.''

*Sighs* My, but this brings back memories. Looney Tunes are among the list of Americanisms that I need to introduce my Japanese girlfriend to.

"Gruesome, isn't it?"

"If I dood it, I gets a whippin'. ... I dood it!"

"Gee, ain't I a stinker?"

"So long, screwy, see you in St. Louie!"

"Tsktsktsk. Too bad... Do you have dizzy spells? Do you see spots before your eyes? Do your ears ring? Are you subject to fits? So am I! Maybe that's what's the matter with me!"

"And don't think it hasn't been a little piece of heaven -- because it hasn't!"

"What a maroon."

"That boy's about as sharp as five pounds of wet leather."

"The kid's about as sharp as a sackful of dead mice."

"I may be a craven coward, but I'm a greedy little craven coward."

"Welcome to my shop, let me cut your mop, let me shave your crop... daaaiiintily, daaaiiintily."

"Aaaaaaaaaaaagnes!!" ::pounds on door::  "Aaaaaaaaaaaagnes!!!"

"It was either him or me, and it obviously couldn't be me. I'm not like other people. I can't stand pain. It hurts me."

"Excuse me, sir, but is this the way to the Coachella Valley Carrot Festival?"

"I do like the way that rolls off the tongue. Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius."

"Please, doc, I'm in a transom."

"Go ahead! Shoot me again! I love the smell of burnt feathers! And gunpowder! And cordite! Look, I'm an elk! It's elk season! I'm a fiddler crab! It's fiddler crab season!"

"Firtht, I am happy, for I am to marry the fair Meliththa. Then, I am furiouth, for I dethpithe the Thcarlet Puh-Puh-Pumpernickel."

"I refuse to look up any more references because you talk mean to me. Say you're sorry."

"It's stupendous, it's colossal! Why one might even go so far as to say ... it's mediocre."

"On second thought, I better not look. I just might be in there!"

"Odds fish. The very air abounds in kings."

"I pierce you with the 'ack-ack' of love, powderpuff"

"Slight pause whilst I adjust my accoutrements."

"Daddy! You're back from Peru! We thought you got run over by a elevator!"

"You got thirty-two teeth, would you like to try for sixteen?"

		Uh "What's up Doc?"

For reasons linked with my handle in the Citizen Band radio realm this is said to me nearly every day and because of that I can't remember if the "Uh
" belongs inside the Quotes or not.

I think it's usually a more nasal "Eh" and I'm pretty sure it's usually part of the saying.

There ism of course, also "What's up duck?" and "What's Opera Doc?"
